Big Litter Box for a Maine Coon Cat

Need a big litter box for a Maine Coon cat? As you know, they require far more space than the average full-grown feline.

It can be likened to a human that can’t open a small public bathroom stall door without touching the toilet. These gentle giants need more room too!

Cats are naturally clean creatures that avoid stepping in feces and urine. A box that’s too small causes more messes than ever – if they’re even willing to keep using it. You may start finding messes on the floor!

Options for Larger Cats…

BIG Cat Litter Boxes in Three Different Styles

Take a look at the following three jumbo cat litter boxes below before settling on one without a lid.

These are three of the biggest covered cat litter boxes I’ve found for a Maine Coon cat or any other large breed.

One is ideal for taller cats, and one is 25″ long. The other is also bigger than most, and all three are worth checking out!

*Whatever you do, don’t make the mistake of using a plastic tote. Because they aren’t made from coated material the urine soaks in and the smell eventually becomes unbearable – and it won’t come out!

# 1 – The Biggest Covered Cat Litter Box

When seeking a big litter box for a Maine coon cat, you have to search for ‘jumbo’ boxes.

Unfortunately most labeled as ‘jumbo’ aren’t much larger than regular pans. I found one that stands out from the rest. It’s the biggest litter box I’ve found for a Maine coon cat, and it’s the king of litter boxes.

  • Made in the USA from top-quality materials
  • No seams mean no leaks
  • It’s a whopping 29″ long, 19″ wide, and 20″ high
  • Attractive Sahara sandstone granite color looks great in any room
  • Easy to clean
  • Made of odor-resistant material
  • Heavy duty
  • Weighs about 15 pounds
  • Last cat litter box you’ll need

Another great thing about the one above is it doesn’t have seams, and that’s another BIG problem with larger breeds.

Because of their height, the urine leaks out from between the lid and the bottom section of regular cat pans.

That won’t happen with this one – ever! It’s not cheap, but the quality and size make it worth every penny.

Big Cat Litter Box # 2 is 25″ Long

  • Another one of the largest cat litter boxes available
  • Non-stick surface for easier cleaning
  • Locking tabs to keep the top and bottom securely connected
  • Extra-long for larger cats
  • Cats love the clear lid

Cat Litter Box # 3

This one is 20″ x 16.8″ x 15″, and it flips open in three different positions to accommodate cats of various heights. It includes a removable and washable tarp liner for easy cleanup and a cat litter scoop. Replacement liners are available. Be sure to take a closer look, and decide if it will work for your Maine Coon.

Finding a Big Litter Box for a Maine Coon Cat

Big Litter Box for a Maine Coon Cat
A Bigger Cat Needs a Bigger Litter Box

When seeking a big litter box for a Maine Coon cat it’s a good idea to read through verified comments as well as reviews for big cat litter boxes.

That way you’ll know for certain that other Maine Coon owners thought it was roomy enough, easy to clean, sturdy, etc.

What next?

No matter which one you choose it’s a good idea to have more than one litter pan for a big cat or in multi-cat households. Although you’ll have multiple boxes to maintain they’ll stay cleaner longer.

Also, kitty will always have access to at least one of the pans, especially in bathrooms shared by humans.

Why it’s Important to Use a Big Box for a Big Kitty

When a covered cat pan is too small urine can seep through the seams and hinges.

It’s important for Maine Coon owners to provide a jumbo cat litter box for a big cat, especially if the cat raises up while peeing.

The selection of cat pans in brick and mortar stores is terrible, but one jumbo litter pan stands out from the rest. They’re all good choices, but the first one listed is by far the roomiest.

They’re all good choices!

When Your Maine Coon Scatters Litter Here, There, and Everywhere…

Now that you know where to find a big litter box for a Maine Coon cat, don’t forget about mess control.

When your Maine Coon is tracking litter on the floor you need more than just a rug in front of the box. The bigger the kitty, the more space for litter to cling to the paws!

A regular throw rug isn’t abrasive enough to remove particles that stick to toes.

Instead of buying undersized mats that kitty would certainly jump over, consider at least one jumbo size Gorilla Grip Premium Cat Litter Mat.

  • It’s a whopping 35″ x 23″ in size and looks like a stylish throw rug. It’s super easy to clean and comes in a wide variety of colors to match any room or cat litter box for your Maine Coon kitty.

Thanks for finding and sharing that big covered litter box. After my Maine coon was fully grown he didn’t fit in any from the store. I tried a big plastic tote but couldn’t stand the smell after a few weeks.

Hi, Maine Coon Mom. I know it isn’t easy to find a big litter box for a Maine Coon cat. I’ve never seen any of these in retail pet stores, and you’re right about totes not working out. The urine odor soaks in and you can’t get rid of the smell. The big litter box is the last one you’ll have to buy. 🙂 Thanks for taking the time to comment.
