Looking for the deepest cat litter boxes available? It doesn’t matter if they’re covered or not since cats don’t always squat as low as they should. It’s not just males that do it either because they have what’s known as elevator butt, and you end up with cat urine under the litter box!
What to Do About Cats That Raise Up in the Litter Box
You can’t train a cat to squat lower in the litter box. It just isn’t possible, but you can provide the deepest cat litter boxes available. Those found at Walmart and even big-box pet stores just don’t cut it. I bought three different styles before finding one that didn’t leak, and it wasn’t from PetsMart.
How is the litter box leaking when it isn’t cracked and the lid is on?
The vast majority aren’t designed with feline habits in mind. They’re made to appeal to humans, and they just aren’t deep enough. The urine runs out through the crack between the lid and the base when the cat raises up.

The Deepest Cat Litter Boxes Available
My favorite cat litter box can’t possibly leak because it’s seamless. It’s the Modkat Flip that I’ve posted above. I’ve had it for a year, and it hasn’t leaked once.
It’s my number one pick for a leakproof covered litter box, other than the Kat Kave Litter Box, but that one is massive and designed for much larger cats like Norweigan forest cats, savannahs, Maine coons, and chousies.
My 11 lb kitty didn’t need one that big, but she needed one with depth and the Modkat is amazing when wanting the deepest covered cat litter boxes.

Kitty Doesn’t Like a Covered Pan?
Not all cats like covered pans, but it doesn’t matter since the deepest open cat litter boxes work just as well. The only difference is the level of odor and visible contents. Some people don’t want to see it, but it depends on the location. It doesn’t matter when it’s out of sight in a utility room, a basement, or some other out-of-the-way location.
The Nature’s Miracle litter pan listed above is 11″ deep and large enough to accommodate large cats. I prefer it to those with removable rims since it’s much easier to clean.
