Need help because your cat is taking the Christmas tree ornaments? My cat batted the bulbs just to watch them swing back and forth when he was little. He ran off with his favorite ones! Kitty meticulously picked them off with his teeth. He knocked the others down. He chewed on some, but the rest were nothing more than playthings to him. It was difficult to have a beautifully decorated tree with a cat burglar in the house. I was able to stop him from destroying my holiday decorations using a few simultaneous methods.

My Cat is Knocking Over the Christmas Tree

Did you know that cats hate the scent of oranges? One sniff and they back away. When they can’t avoid it some will even foam at the mouth. The fragrance of orange oil isn’t harmful to cats, but they absolutely hate it. When you need help because your cat is taking the Christmas tree ornaments make several orange and clove pomanders. Cloves are and oranges are both highly fragrant. The combination is a natural cat Christmas tree repellent.

Use a flexible measuring tape or a piece of card stock to mark dots for clove placement around the first orange. Make swirls, circles, stripes, and other random designs with the cloves. Use an embroidery needle to attach a narrow ribbon hanger at the top along with a couple of natural cinnamon sticks and star anise, if desired. Hang the cat repellent Christmas tree ornaments around the bottom of the tree. They will smell great to you, but kitty won’t agree. These are effective when your cat is taking the Christmas tree ornaments or knocking them down. Hang his favorites on upper branches. He won’t want these clove-infused oranges.

If you don’t want to see clove covered oranges hanging from your holiday tree, use cat deterrent spray that keeps cats away from Christmas trees and other off-limits area. Fences might keep dogs away, but they don’t work for cats. Homemade sprays aren’t nearly as effective either.

Apply a light misting of Natural Armour Cat Repellent to branches and decorations. Refresh it as necessary. The all-natural minty repellent doesn’t smell bad to humans, but it’s overpowering and unpleasant to felines and other animals. Follow product label directions for best results. This method can be used with the orange clove ornaments posted above.

The Cat is Taking the Christmas Tree Ornaments: Behavior Training Solutions –

In addition to making the tree and ornaments as unpleasantly fragrant as possible, you can learn how to train a cat to stay away from the Christmas tree. Contrary to popular belief, cats can be trained. As cute as it looks, don’t allow kitty to lie underneath. It would send him mixed signals.

Put a couple of pennies in an an empty aluminum soda can. Each time kitty approaches the off-limit area, rattle the coins as loudly as possible until he leaves the area. He (or she) will begin to associate the irritating sound with the space. Other than sending him to visit grandma for the holidays or setting the tree up outside, these are the most effective solutions when your cat is taking the Christmas tree ornaments.
