How Often to Water a Mini Cacti Necklace

Need to know how often to water a mini cacti necklace? I ordered one in a little glass dome terrarium from Wish, and it didn’t include instructions. Cactus don’t need as much water as other succulents, but although it seemed healthy it looked a little yellow. I had to find care instructions for a cacti necklace from Wish. Thankfully I know someone that sells live plant necklaces at the local flea market, and she was kind enough to give me the following information and tips.

My New Live Cacti Necklace

Unless the moss in the base appears damp or it came with a dated card, your mini cactus should be watered right away. If it came from Wish it had quite a trip, and it’s likely very thirsty.  It may have been stored without light and hydration for weeks before reaching you. As it was I had to wait about a month to receive my shipment. After seeing the prices of live cacti necklaces on Amazon, I’ll just order those next time. I want another one for myself, one for my best friend, and one for my mom. They’re super cute and unique gifts for cactus lovers, and they’re easy to care for since they don’t require daily watering.

Is it Okay to Use Tap Water?

Is it OK to water a cacti necklace with tap water? In a pinch it’s fine to use bottled water, but tap water should be avoided since it may contain chlorine and other additives. Don’t use softened water since it contains high levels of salt. What kind of water to use for a cacti necklace? It’s best to use distilled water or rainwater for best results.

Pour about a 1/2 inch of water into a shallow bowl. Allow the dome planter to remain in the water between one and two minutes. You’ll see the moss go from dry and yellowish brown to mossy green.

What to Do if Moisture Forms in the Dome

Moisture may form after watering live plant necklaces. Simply take it apart by carefully separating the dome from the base. Use a soft lint-free cloth to gently wipe the moisture away before reconnecting the dome and the base.
