Home Remedies to Defog Car Windows in a Pinch

I recently watched a video that tested several DIY solutions to defog car windows. The guy tested shaving gel, a raw potato, hand sanitizer, diluted baby shampoo, and RainX.

Why did anyone ever try a raw potato or diluted baby shampoo? Commonsense says those wouldn’t work, but he gave each one a fair assessment since they were listed as DIY solutions to prevent car windows from fogging up.

How Well Did They Work?

The shaving gel and RainX worked fairly well to prevent steam on car windows, but the results weren’t phenomenal. First of all, they weren’t made for defogging vehicle windows.

These are okay in a pinch, but shaving gel is messy and could damage interior surfaces. It’s best to use something formulated especially to defog car windows.

Not All Fan Motors are Worth Replacing

Some would ask, why not just replace the broken fan to prevent steam on car windows?

In some cases, it just isn’t worth the cost of labor and materials required to replace a blower motor. It’s especially difficult in many older vehicles since it requires taking the entire dashboard apart.
